- Dear Pat,
-
- With Microsoft Word 6.0 or Microsoft Excel 5.0, when you click
- the File menu, Word may produce a "Type 3" error or it may stop responding
- (hang). This problem occurs if the following items are installed on your
- computer:
- - Global Village TelePort or PowerPort software
- - Office4.2x Update for Power Mac (version 1.0)
-
- This problem has been corrected with version 1.0.1 of the "Office4.2x
- Update for Power Macintosh" extension, available in an updated version of
- the Application Note. The Application Note number is MC1164.
-
- The updated extension is available at:
- - Web site:
- http://198.105.232.6:80/KB/SoftLib/MSLFiles/MC1164.HQX
- The first web site includes the info about the file and a link to the file
- itself (at the second web site).
-
- - On the Internet, Application Notes are located on the Microsoft
- anonymous ftp server
- ftp.microsoft.com in SOFTLIB/MSLFILES directory called: MC1164.HQX
-
-
- - On CompuServe, GEnie, and Microsoft Partner Network (MSPN), Application
- Notes are located in the Microsoft Software Library. You can find MC1164
- in the Software Library by searching on the word MC1164, the Q number of
- this article, or S15317. MC1164.HQX is a BinHex 4.0 file. After you
- download MC1164.HQX and copy it to your Macintosh, decode it with BinHex
- 4.0 (or another utility that understands BinHex 4 format, such as
- Stuffit or CompactPro). Decoding converts the text-format .HQX file into
- a binary-format, compressed .SEA file. To extract the contents of file,
- double-click the MC1164.SEA icon.
-
- - Application Notes are available by modem from the Microsoft Download
- Service (MSDL), which you can reach by calling (206) 936-6735. This
- service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The highest download
- speed available is 14,400 bits per second (bps). For more information
- about using the MSDL, call (800) 936-4100 and follow the prompts.
- MC1164.SEA is a compressed, self-extracting file. After you download
- MC1164.SEA to your Macintosh, double-click the MC1164.SEA icon to
- extract the contents of the file.
-
- - If you are unable to access the source(s) listed above, you can have
- this Application Note mailed to you by calling Microsoft
- Product Support Services Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.
- Pacific time at (800) 635-7055. If you are outside the United States,
- contact the Microsoft subsidiary for your area. To locate your
- subsidiary, call the Microsoft International Sales Information Center at
- (206) 936-8661.
-
- Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
